small studio bedroom of a college student; twin size bed and bedframe on the right with just enough room for a floor lamp in the middle and nightstand on the left

Here is the small studio bedroom of a college student, my daugher, in our tiny southern California studio apartment. We like to call this her nook, rather than a bedroom, since it’s so small! My apartment is a little over 400 square feet, and I sure maximized every inch of this space with lovely furniture and decor on a super small budget! Check out the shocking before pics and the full video after tour here!

Color Inspiration for this Small Studio Bedroom of a College Student

Sevenstars Mountain Tapestry Forest Tree Tapestry Sunset Tapestry Nature Landscape Tapestry Wall Hanging for Room(59.1 x 82.7 inches) from Amazon.com on wall behind bed

My daughter sent me this link to this tapestry here. At first, I was hesitant to purchase it because her “nook” is so small, I thought the dark colors would make it seem smaller. Instead, the scenery seemed to expand her little corner. I then took the color inspiration from this tapestry to create her bedding ensemble. The darker pillows pulling from the landscape, the orange from the sun, and the pink from the sky. Ross Dress for Less, again, is my go to for toss pillows, and it is also where I purchased her comforter and throw blanket.

Small Studio Bedroom Furniture on a Budget

Novogratz Marion Canopy Bed Frame, Gold, Twin bed frame from Amazon.com

My daughter puchased this bed frame from Amazon here. At the time of this post, the link shows an outrageous price as the one she purchased was less than $170.00. If you want this bed frame for yourself, click the link noting the lesser price. I highly recommend this bed frame. At first, I was concerned that it would be rickety being that it was made of very slim metal bars. However, this thing is solid. It does not budge at all! On top of that, it’s gorgeous! This is the best Amazon furniture purchase we have ever made.

Speaking of best Amazon purchases ever made, I also purchased my daughter’s vanity here.

VASAGLE Vanity Table with Flip Top Mirror, Solid Wood Makeup Dressing Table Desk, 6 Organizers for Different Sized Makeup Accessories, 1 Small Drawers for Lipsticks, Powders, Saddle Brown URDT26BR from Amazon.com

It’s mid century modern design and size were just perfect for this little nook within this bedroom nook. The stool underneath is from Ross Dress for Less. It has the same pink tone as her pink toss pillow on her bed and gold-toned legs.

As mentioned in my living room post here, I purchased my dresser and my daughter’s nightstand as a set through Offerup.

Again, isn’t that knob just gorgeous? Also through Offerup, I obtained this lamp. You won’t believe this, but I got it for free! The lady said it wasn’t working. I asked my daughter’s grandpa, an electrician, if he can fix it and he totally did. This was obviously the best Offerup deal ever. No, wait, if you saw my living room post, you know my couch was a steal!

Small Studio Bedroom Nook Setup

If you are wondering where this nook fits into the layout of our small studio apartment, it is separated from my bedroom with these curtains.

tension rod, drop cloth curtain, and drapery clips used as room divider in small studio

I purchased the extra long tension rod, curtain clips, and drop cloth fabric all through Amazon. It is the perfect neutral back drop to separate our spaces without clashing with our opposite bedroom style themes. I sewed the drop cloth fabric to fit this space and used the leftover fabric for the small window in my bedroom as well as my toss pillows.

Oh! And if you’re wondering where my daughter’s window is, it is behind the wall tapestry. She just drapes the tapestry over the top of her bed frame when she wants some sunlight and fresh air.

While this post series (my previous post was all about my master bedroom) is an overall tour of each room/area in our tiny studio, I will eventually go into more detail about the organization of each room/area in detail.

If you have any questions about where I purchased any of the items pictured here, feel free to leave a comment below.

In my next post, I share our full studio video tour here.
