If you missed my blog on “The Best Ways to Use Whiteboards to Maximize Planning & How to Keep Them Clean”, click here. In this blog and the video above, I am showing you how to make them a little neater by printing on sticky notes.

First, you will want to print your template for the size sticky notes you need to print on. Then, you will apply your sticky notes to your blank template. And, finally, you will type out and print onto your sticky notes.

1. CREATE YOUR BLANK TEMPLATE (OR PRINT THE ONES I PROVIDE! SEE BELOW)

Here is how to create a template for different-sized sticky notes. In this example, we are creating a template for a 3 by 5 inch sticky note.

In Microsoft Word, click “Insert” and then “Text Box”
Choose “Simple Text Box”
You can delete the default text by selecting all of the text and clicking the “Delete” or “Backspace” button
To change the size of the text box, move your cursor to hover over the edge of the text box until it becomes a four-sided-arrow
Right click and click “More Layout Options”
Select the “Size” tab, click “Absolute” under both Height and Width and type in the dimensions of the sticky note and click “OK”
If the text box does not immediately become the correct size, hover over the circle at the bottom of the text box until it becomes a double-sided arrow and click while dragging downward (just slightly is fine)
Move your cursor to hover over the edge of the text box until it becomes a four-sided-arrow again and right-click again to choose “More Layout Options” again
Click on the “Size” tab and correct the dimensions
Move your cursor to hover over the edge of the text box until you see a four-sided arrow again, then right-click and select “Copy”
Paste the copied text box wherever and you can hover over it until you see the four-sided arrow and drag it to wherever you would like it to be on the page
Try to fit as many as you can on one page

Now, save this template. You can name it: Sticky Note 3 x 5 Inch Template – Print First.

2. APPLY YOUR STICKY NOTES

You will apply all of your sticky notes with the sticky side up. That way, when you load your paper into your printer you will avoid jamming it as the paper won’t lift up when running through the machine.

3. CREATE YOUR TEXT AND/OR GRAPHIC TEMPLATE (OR USE THE ONES I PROVIDE! SEE BELOW)

Take your blank template that you just created and click “File” and then click “Save As”. You can name it: Sticky Note 3 x 5 Inch Template – Print Second

Now, we need to remove the text box frames so that we can print the text only on the sticky notes.

Move your cursor to hover over the edge of each text box until it becomes a four-sided-arrow, then right-click and select “Outline” and then select “No Outline”
So that you can customize your font, type in [Type Text Here] and select the text you just typed and then right-click to choose your font style and size
You can also change the font by clicking on the “Home” tab and changing it in the “Font” section; you can also change the alignment of your font within the box within the “Paragraph” section

You can copy your customized text into each of the remaining text boxes so that they all consistently have the same font. Don’t forget to save your second template after you have customized the fonts to your liking. Then, you can reuse this as many times as you would like!

In the video, I show you how to change the font there as well as how to add in a picture or graphic. You can simply search for inspiration online, copy a picture, and paste it inside of the text box.
