In this post, we focus on how to organize your cleaning tools. Below, I share ideas on how to organize your cleaning tools with different types of organizing solutions that will work for your organizing styles and spaces. I also share how to organize cleaning products here.

Cleaning Tool Organization

There are 11 types of cleaning tools you must store for quick and easy access for everyday use and emergency spills as needed:

  • brooms
  • brushes (i.e. bottle brush, dish brush, detail brush, grout brush, iron handle brush, scrub brush, straw cleaning brush, toilet brush, utility brush)
  • buckets
  • cleaning cloths (i.e. microfiber, all-purpose, dust, glass)
  • cleaning gloves
  • dust pans
  • mops (i.e. butterfly mop, dust mop, microfiber mop, roller mop, spinmop, twist mop)
  • mop refills (i.e. butterfly mop, disposable pads, microfiber pad, roller mop, spin mop, twist mop)
  • scrubbing pads (i.e. stainless steel scrubbing pad, steel wool scrubbing pad)
  • sponges (i.e. eraser sponge, heavy duty sponge, non-scratch sponge)
  • squeegees

Now that you have corralled all your favorite cleaning tools, let’s set up systems to make your frequently used cleaning tools easily accessible and organize your backups and refills.

Accessibility

Dish Washing Tools

This is my absolute favorite kitchen sink caddy (found here). It perfectly contains everything I need for dishwashing including my soap pump, dish brush, straw cleaning brush, bottle brush, and scrub sponge. I share exactly what I store in this sink organizer in my kitchen tour here.

When I used to just use a sponge for dishwashing, I used to use something like this to keep it contained. To customize the organization of your sink, you can simply look up an organizing solution for specifically what you need to contain, like a dish brush holder like this. So, if you can’t find the perfect all-in-one organizing solution, you can customize solutions that work specifically for you.

Cleaning Cloths & Gloves

First, I want to clarify that there is a difference between cleaning rags and cleaning cloths. Cleaning rags should solely be used for sopping up messy spills, while cleaning cloths should solely be used for cleaning (i.e. dusting, polishing, etc.) I share how to organize cleaning rags here, so that they are easily accessible, and so you have a place to toss used rags where they can air out properly until they are washed.

The best way I found to store cleaning cloths like microfiber cleaning cloths is to utilize clips to hang them up so that they are easily accessible AND so that they can dry properly between uses. I share my exact setup here where I store my dusting cloth, all-purpose cloth, drying cloth, glass cleaning cloth, and polishing cloth on individual clips attached to the inside of my cleaning closet door. You can utilize any kind of clips that suit your space. For example, I share how to utilize s-hooks on a tension rod under the sink here. You can also use curtain clips like these on a rod to store both your cleaning cloths and cleaning gloves between uses (found here):

Handled Cleaning Tools

There is an assortment of cleaning tool racks available to hold tall cleaning tools including mops and brooms. I’ve installed this one in my mom’s garage and our church kitchen as it is quite versatile for containing mops and brooms and any handle with a hole in the end. I find my favorite way to store cleaning tools is to utilize individual hooks with grippers as they are more versatile for not only containing mops and brooms but all tools with handles including dust pans, handled brushes, and squeegees. I share my exact setup of how I contain all my handled cleaning tools including my microfiber spray mop, roller mop, dust pan and broom set, squeegee and iron handled brush here. These are my favorite hooks as they are strong and the adhesive is super strong (found here):

Detail Cleaning Tools

For portability for your cleaning products and small cleaning tools together, I shared a cleaning caddy in the previous post. What I love about this one below is that you can contain your detail cleaning tools in those little circle slots (found here):

Storage

Bulk Cleaning Products

A lot of the time, sponges, scrubbers, dish brushes, and detail cleaning brushes come in multi-packs, and so you need a place to store these extras. You can simply store these along with mophead refills in the same organizing solutions I shared in the previous post where I share how to organize your cleaning products. Bins and baskets can be all you need. A stacking drawer system like this is super helpful for maximizing vertical space (found here):
