Before organizing your CDs, DVDs, and VHS tapes, you must purge the damaged items and the ones that you do not listen to or watch anymore. Be ruthless and purge the excess so you can more easily store what you do listen to or watch.

Space-Saving Storage Solutions
The most space-saving way to store CDs and DVDs, besides digitizing, is to discard the cases and only store the CDs and DVDs themselves. You can find your local ewaste recycling center and ecologically dispose of the cases. After you remove your CDs and DVDs from their cases, you want to ensure they are properly protected. An organizing solution that already comes with protective sleeves for your CDs and DVDs is a CD/DVD binder like this (found here):
You can either organize your music and movies by genre or alphabetically … whatever you prefer. However you decide to order them, I suggest adding tabs like these to label each genre or letter (found here):
You can either write our your labels or use a label maker. My favorite label maker tape is black ink on clear tape as it is most versatile for applying different color surfaces.
