Today, I feature s-hooks and seven ways to get organized with them! Did you even know that these organizing products existed?
Welcome to the tenth post in my series about how to decide whether or not you need organizing products. Click here if you missed the intro.
You want to wait until the 6th step of organizing before you purchase organizing supplies. I have my free mini 7-step guide here!
Let’s jump into where and how to organize with s-hooks in your spaces! Just click on the video above!
ORIGINAL FUNCTION
The purpose of an s-hook is to create hooks from a closet rod or rack depending on the size or type which, in turn, allows you to have quick and easy access to an individual item.
WHAT NOT TO DO
These are not meant for multiple large items like multiple coats on one hook as they will turn on the rod and fall. Also, though tempting, you should not hang too many smaller items like scarves and belts as it can be cumbersome to remove a whole bunch just to access one.
BEST WAYS TO USE
The best way to organize with s-hooks is to have one item per hook as they are designed to create quick and easy access to individual items.
UNCONVENTIONAL USES
Some unconventional ways to organize with s-hooks can be to place them on a coat closet rod for backpacks to have them ready for the morning before school. Next to that is a command center as I have shown you in my sweater organizer post.
You can store purses from a closet rod. Similarly-sized purses would store well on a closet rod that may have a dresser underneath and little space between the rod and the dresser.
Do you have a lot of people in one place but few bathrooms? You can hang towels from the shower curtain rod and not worry about having to install towel bars or hooks on the wall if you are renting. Below, I show you a shower curtain hook option from The Container Store that is already an s-shaped shower curtain hook. That way, you kill two birds with one stone! Don’t forget to check my previous post to see how to store multiple sets of toiletries in a shared bathroom.
You can turn a coat closet into a cleaning closet and hang your large cleaning tools from the closet rod. I show you how to store the rest of your cleaning supplies in my hanging shoe organizer post.
You can hang your cleaning cloths from a tension rod under the kitchen sink for easy access.
These are also great for storing camera equipment. I show you how to store all of the little parts and tools for your camera equipment in my previous post.
HOW TO DECIDE IF YOU NEED S-HOOKS
These are great for if you need quick and easy access to individual items at eye level. They are a really great solution if installing hooks directly on a wall are not ideal for you.
HOW TO SAVE MONEY
First, as always, don’t purchase more s-hooks than you need. Again, you will pare down your items to what you need before you purchase any organizing products in general. This can be a budget-friendly solution as opposed to purchasing a hook rack. Here are links to affordable options:
Walmart – These are the ones I used:
Ikea – These are great in combination with the rail for use in the kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, garage … anything you want quick and easy access to:
The Container Store – These are the prettiest options for sure. And, of course, they have the most innovative options for purses and shower hooks:
Amazon – These are the most affordable and they are all rated 4 stars and above and include free shipping:
