If your dressers and closets are overflowing or jumbled, you’re likely wasting so much time looking for things and also damaging your clothes as they are being jammed and snagged in your closets and dressers. So, we continue my series on clothing organization. I covered skirt organization in my previous post. Here I continue with the best ways to properly organize and store your shorts, from the shortest of shorts to basketball shorts, to maximize space. And, did you know, you can also organize your spaces according to your organizing style? You can find out what your organizing style is here.
Before organizing your shorts, you must purge the ones that you do not like and no longer use. Be ruthless and purge the excess so you can more easily store what you do need and use.
In my freebie library here, I include guides which help walk you through the organizing process and help you decide what to purge and keep. I also include my declutter and organizing challenge calendars and guides to help direct you through each area of your home. These guides ensure you get through every nook and cranny and finally get to the other side of clutter … an organized and functional space!

Shorts Organization
Before you start organizing your shorts, I highly suggest editing your collection. You don’t want to purchase a bunch of organizing solutions to contain shorts you’re not even going to wear. I share my clothing quantities to keep guidelines in my freebie library here. My guide helps you to determine how many of each clothing item to keep based on your lifestyle and how often you are able to do laundry. I also share tips for how to keep your closets from overflowing, yet always have something to wear, here.
Hanger Options for Shorts
All of the skirt hanging solutions I shared in my previous post also work perfectly well for shorts. An additional hanger style that works for shorts is a pants hanger like this which make it easy to slide your shorts on and off (found here):
There are also tiered pants hanger options available like this (found here):
This a great space-saving option. However, I suggest using a cascading hanger instead as it makes accessing each pair of shorts much easier as you can hook the other side and easily access each individual pair of shorts.
Drawer Organizing Solutions
To maximize drawer space, compact folding solutions like I share here will help. Because shorts come in different shapes and sizes from daisy dukes to basketball shorts, using a combination of folding techniques found here, and in the video below, in combination with drawer organizing solutions will help to customize dividers for shorts of every size and shape.
You can install expandable and adjustable dividers like this (found here):
Or, you can use an assortment of drawer organizers like this (found here):
Small Space Organizing Solutions
If you don’t have space for a dresser or space in your dresser, besides the hanger options above and in the previous post, here are some organizing solutions that might work for you.
You can utilize the back of a closet door or bedroom door to roll and store shorts which can all be made visible through an organizer like this (found here):
A hanging shoe organizer can be perfect for a collection of basketball shorts (found here) (I share multiple ways you can use hanging shoe organizers throughout your home here):
You can also utilize the space under your bed by using an underbed shoe organizer which can contain each pair of basketball shorts in each section which are visible through the clear cover (found here):
I hope you found some ideas for how to organize your shorts for your organizing style and/or the space that you have! In my next post, I share how to organize leggings.
