If your dressers and closets are overflowing or jumbled, you’re likely wasting so much time looking for things and also damaging your clothes as they are being jammed and snagged in your dressers and closets. So, we continue my series on clothing organization. I covered t-shirt organization in my previous post. Here I continue with the best ways to properly organize your dress shirts to keep them nice and crisp and maximize storage. Dress Shirt Organization
Before you start organizing your dress shirts, I highly suggest editing your collection. You don’t want to purchase a bunch of organizing solutions to contain dress shirts you’re not even going to wear. I share my clothing quantities to keep guidelines in my freebie library here. My guide helps you to determine how many of each clothing item to keep based on your lifestyle and how often you are able to do laundry.
Hanging vs Folding
I don’t know about you, but I would rather avoid ironing my clothes as much as possible. So, I like to hang all my clothing. The key is to have enough space between each piece so your dress shirts are not getting crushed and wrinkled. Again, that’s why purging and editing your closet is necessary for removing the excess allowing you more storage space.
Hanging Dress Shirts
To maximize hanging space, you can use a double rod system like this (found here):
If you have a standard closet with a single rod across the top, you can turn it into a double-hanging rod with this (found here):
Or, you can install a tension rod like this (found here):
Folding Dress Shirts
I talked about using a folding device to help fold your t-shirts here. Since these folding devices are more suitably sized for men’s clothing, it can really help to fold all your dress shirts evenly so they stack and store evenly.
If you always wear your dress shirts under a blazer or jacket, you can get away with folding your dress shirts and require minimal to no ironing as long as you keep the collars nice and crisp. You can use a device like this to keep your collars nicely propped while folded (found here):
You can also use something like this which can not only be used while folded but also while wearing your dress shirts so your collar doesn’t fall flat (found here):
Long Term & Travel Storage Solutions
If you only where dress shirts occasionally or need to travel with your dress shirts, you can utilize a hanging storage solution like this (found here):
Or a storage solution like this if it is easier for you to store or travel with your dress shirts (found here):
I hope you found some ideas for how to organize your dress shirts for your organizing style and/or the space that you have! In my next post, I share how to organize your blouses.
