HOW TO ORGANIZE COFFEE AND TEA

In an attempt to have Pinterest-perfect and Instagram-worthy pantries, I notice some households storing their coffee and tea incorrectly causing the beans or tea leaves to lose their potency. I share all about how to organize your coffee and tea to prevent it from losing it’s flavor and effectiveness. And, did you know, you can also organize your spaces according to your organizing style? Before organizing your coffee and tea, you must purge the expired ones and the ones you do not like. Be ruthless and purge the excess so you can more easily store what you do use.

In this post, we focus on how to organize your coffee and tea. Below, I share ideas on how to properly organize your coffee and tea with different types of organizing solutions that will work for your organizing styles and spaces.

How to Properly Store Coffee

The number one mistake I see regarding coffee storage is to decant coffee into a clear container outside of a closed cabinet (inside of a closed cabinet is fine). Coffee must be kept away from light. Otherwise, the exposure to light can degrade it’s flavor. So, coffee must be stored in an opaque container or closed cabinet if the container is clear. It is best to leave coffee in it’s original packaging or an air tight, opaque container like this (found here):

The best way to consume coffee is to grind the whole bean as needed. In that case, you would simply leave the beans in their original bag or a container like the one shown above. This is a handy to scoop to use for either whole coffee beans or coffee grounds (found here):

How to Organize Coffee Pods

For coffee pods, there are several options available to organize your pods in a countertop organizer or in a stand underneath your pod-style coffee machine. You can also keep things simple by storing your pods in baskets within a kitchen cabinet or in drawer organizers within a drawer. The choice you make will depend on the space you have available and the quantity and variety of pods you typically purchase. This option can be used to store your pods, sweeteners, creamers, and tea bags (found here).

How to Properly Store Tea

Speaking of tea, much like coffee, tea leaves must be kept away from the light as well as the flavor can degrade with exposure. Sometimes those teas come in clear packaging because they are so pretty and I have stored loose tea in glass jars simply because they can be so pretty with those little flower buds (in a closed cabinet, you can get away with storing pretty tea leaves in clear containers). However, you ideally want to keep your loose tea stored in it’s original packaging like those pretty tins they already come in. If your loose tea does not come in an air tight, opaque container, using something like a smaller version of the coffee container above will help keep your loose tea fresher longer (found here):

For individual tea bags, if you have seen my kitchen tour, you know this tea organizer below is my favorite. I typically don’t purchase more than four different tea bags at a time, so this is just perfect. I needed a pretty, countertop tea organizing solution because of my teeny, tiny kitchen. So, this was just perfect (found here):

This option below (found here) can also be stored on your countertops or tucked away in a kitchen cabinet. Bonus: this one also stores coffee pods:

Storing your tea bags in a drawer is as simple as using drawer dividers/organizers. A box like this can be tucked in a drawer and is also pretty enought to be set out for guests (found here):
