How to Know if You Need Cereal Containers

If you go through a box of cereal rather quickly … so quickly that it doesn’t have to time to get stale, you won’t be needing a container to hold your cereal. So, save yourself some money and leave those pretty containers at the store. Just line those boxes up on the shelf and you’re good to go! Or, if you need to store your cereal boxes and bags on a shelf that is slightly out of reach, you can use a handled bin like this (found here):

If you would like to not have to purchase containers for cereal, a good rule of thumb is to not purchase or open too many boxes or bags or cereal at once. Only open what you or household can reasonably consume before each box or bag of cereal has a chance to go stale. For some households, that may mean you will only open one bag or box or multiple at a time. It all depends on how large or small your household is and how oftern you consume cereal. You can label the cereal or the bin with a label that says, “Eat me, first.”

How to Decide How Many Containers You Might Need

If you or your household does typically only consume a portion of a box or bag of cereal at a time, then, utilizing cereal containers can be just what you need! BUT, how many different types of boxes or bags of cereal do you leave open all at once? Also note that even though you may store your cereal in containers that are air tight, your cereal is still being exposed to air every time you open the container. So, you will need to keep in mind that your cereal will still expire more quickly once opened. It won’t go stale as quickly without a container, but it will still continue to go stale.

So, again, you will need to evaluate how quickly you will go through each cereal. Then, you can decide on how many containers you will need. You can start off by purchasing them individually. Or, a set of these containers might work for you if you know you could make good use of of all of them (found here):
